Digital Video Editing Systems - DVES.co.nz
Home About DVES Products Systems Contact
1 - How we build you a Digital Video Editing System.
After you have entered our systems setup page and configured your editing system - (by the way we have set it up so you can't make a mistake in configuring an editing system) - and you have hit checkout - the fields for filling out your details appear - you can print the quote or forward it to who ever you please for evaluation - once your order is placed and we have confirmed your order - any changes or additions can be requested and will be included through either email or phone with a final confirmation - payment through online banking is requested - once payment is received parts are ordered and the build is started - on completion the system is tested to make sure everything is sweet - we update windows to the latest service packs and patches - install antivirus and update it and seal windows for your activation or set the user name and password to your specifications and activate it for you - recommended when dealing with adobe products - we can courier - pickup or drop-off with training if that is required - additional fees may apply - travel and an hourly rate from our workshop - if any problems arise we will work very quickly to resolve it and am aware of the need for problems to be dealt with quickly - we can offer a spare machine at a very reasonable rate if required.

2 - DVES are focused on providing software based Digital Video Editing Solutions for HDV and DV. Real-time card editing solutions can be very problematic and become redundant with the changes in OS, Editing software or Computer Hardware. Most editing software suppliers are moving towards software based editing solutions as a result of all the changes happening in the computer industry, computer systems are now incredibly fast and heading towards 64bit and multiple processors, negating the need for real-time cards and often making current cards redundant.

3 - Whether your machine is based around an Intel or AMD solution the choice of motherboard is critical. We use motherboards that are chosen mainly for there reliability, stability and ease of replacement if things go wrong, which is rare but can happen. The features of the motherboard are important and we focus on the storage subsystem design when selecting our boards.

4 - Chipset choice determines your systems storage performance, features and stability.

5 - We use quality Ram which aids system stability and reliability.

6 - Well designed cases allow for the fitting of mulitiple hard-drives and provide good cooling characteristics for the internal components.

7 - Quality power supplies provide constant voltage under full load when editing and need enough power to supply the system and it's many components.

8 - Dual DVI graphics cards allow the ability to configure Dual monitors that are colour matched - Nvidia cards give you the correct operation of the overlay function out to a video monitor.

9 - The use of Creative sound cards play an important part in the compatibility with the editing software and the quality of the recording and playback of audio.

10 - The use of Texas instrument Firewire cards assists in the camera - deck control when capturing or laying off footage.

11 - DVES takes the guess work out of building a professional platform - allowing you to create! - Without the hassle of an unstable system.

12 - If any problems do occur DVES can repair it quickly - Now doesn't that sound just right!

DVC Pro HD
The requirements for DVC Pro HD are up to 220Mb/s (dependant on resolution) as opposed to DV of 25Mb/s so the editing software, system and storage requirements are at the limits of what you can buy, minimum specs are a workstation class dual cpu system with the fastest cpu's you can buy and a Raid 0 stripe storage array with eight hard-drives as a best option giving you ample storage bandwidth using a PCI-X SATA Raid card and 8x400Gb Seagate drives with 400+Mb/s bandwidth, a good media backup system is recommended for this setup DLT tape or a Raid 5 backup array. Avid Xpress Pro HD is recommended for this scenario and this would be a custom build for you.

Free DV
Free avid dv is available to download direct
http://www.avid.com/freedv/index.asp
The recommended specifications for running Free Avid DV successfully:
Intel or AMD 2Ghz
512mb Ram
XP Pro or XP Home
Creative sound card (AC97 sometimes works)
Texas instrument Firewire card (others like NEC or Via may work)
Motherboards latest chipset drivers
(find your motherboard ID usually screen printed on motherboard and using google to search for your motherboard drivers from the manufacturer web site download and install all drivers)
When building an editing system it is recommended you start from a clean install for the best performance and update all of the patches that windows offers you
If you have fitted a creative sound card make sure you disable onboard sound in the bios
The graphics card should be an Nvidia card twinview + tv-out (install the latest drivers) as the overlay works correctly on this make when viewing on an external TV monitor when editing.
At least two hard drives are recommended
1 - operating system
2 - video footage
Good luck
